＞ 荷兰人发明了最早的操纵股市的技术，例如卖空（short-selling，指卖出自己并不拥有的股票，希冀在股价下跌后购回以赚取差价），卖空袭击（bear raid，指内部人合谋卖空股票，直到其他股票拥有者恐慌并全部卖出自己的股票，导致股价下跌，内部人得以低价购回股票以平仓来获利），对敲（syndicate，指一群合谋者在他们之间对倒股票来操纵股价），以及逼空股票（corner，也称杀空或坐庄某一支股票，或囤积某一种商品，指个人或集团秘密买断某种股票或商品的全部流通供应量，逼迫任何需要购买这种股票或商品的其他买家不得不在被操纵的价位上购买）。
